American Motors Corporation, plus connue sous le nom AMC, est un constructeur automobile américain, créé en 1954 par la fusion de Nash Motors et Hudson Motor Car Company. À cette époque, elle fut la plus grosse fusion de sociétés réalisée aux États-Unis, évaluée à 197 793 366 $US (1,44 milliards $US en 2006). Quatrième constructeur américain, avec notamment la marque Jeep, AMC vit ses ventes décliner à la fin des années 1970 face à la concurrence des trois grands de l’auto américains et des constructeurs japonais. Il dût s’allier puis être repris par Renault en 1979. Mais face aux difficultés du groupe français, AMC fut revendu à Chrysler le 2 mars 1987. Ce dernier cessa l’utilisation de la marque AMC et des modèles venant de Renault pour ne retenir que la division Jeep et la marque Eagle.

Marlin
1965–1967

The Marlin can claim to be the first mid-sized fastback car made in the United States during the sixties. Built by American Motors Corporation (AMC) from 1965 to 1967, it was a halo car for the company. It had an exceptional array of standard equipment and AMC marketed it as a personal luxury car.

The model produced in 1965 and 1966 was a fastback version of the mid-sized two-door hardtop Rambler Classic. The fastback roof design was previewed on the 1964 Rambler Tarpon show car, based on the compact Rambler American. The 1967 model year brought a major redesign, AMC transferring the Marlin recipe to the all new longer, wider AMC Ambassador full size chassis. This gave the completely new fastback a longer hoodline, more interior room, new more powerful V8 engines as well as numerous other improvements.

AMX
1968 – 1970

The AMX was a touring-sports car produced by American Motors Corporation (AMC) between 1968 and 1970. More GT in style and approach than a true sports car, the muscular AMX was introduced to compete head-to-head with America's only other two-seater of the era, the Chevrolet Corvette.

Fitted with the optional high-compression medium block 390 cu in (6.4 L) AMC V8, the AMX offered top notch performance at an affordable price. In spite of this value and enthusiastic initial reception by automotive media and enthusiasts, sales never thrived and after three model years it was discontinued, AMC transferring the AMX's signature badging to a high-performance version of its 4-seat sibling, the Javelin, through 1974.

Attempting to further trade on the original's once respected reputation, the AMX designation was revived again for performance option equipped versions of the Hornet in 1977, Concord in 1978, and Spirit in 1979 and 1980.

Matador
1971 – 1978

The AMC Matador is an intermediate car that was built and sold by American Motors Corporation (AMC) from 1971 to 1978. These models were also assembled in Mexico by Vehículos Automotores Mexicanos (VAM) and in Australia by Australian Motor Industries (AMI) with modifications for their markets including continuing the use of the Rambler marque.

le voici maintenant avec un peu plus de "viande" autour...

Pour etre plus precis le rambler marlin 65/67 est dérivé du tarpon basé sur le rambler american pour competitioner
Mustang/barracuda dans la catégorie des petites voiture sport fastback mais le manque d'un v8 assé petit pour
l'american a ammené la direction a créer le PREMIER coupé intermediaire fastback (1 an avant charger)en greffant
la ligne de toit sur un ambassador...avec un avant de classic!!pour 65,66 redessiné en 67 il prends l'avant de l'ambassador...
Le Marlin fut plus un modele a diffusion limité qu'un echec commercial ou un prototype.
