Though he's sad to part with it, Jeff Robinson made out okay.

"Jeff loved the car and he knows I'm going to take car of it and it'll take a special place in the hearts of the people at Papa John's," said John, adding "he was kind enough to sell it for $250,000."

Robinson isn't sure whether or not he'll build another Z28 of that era or try for something else. Either way, Papa John has promised to deliver the motor back if he decides to restore it to stock condition.

When Papa John opened his first restaurant he had to sell his 1972 gold-and-black Z28 Camaro to get the $1,600 he needed to pay for the equipment.

So how did the car go so long without being found? There are two reasons. First, the original sale occurred just across the border in Indiana, where there was no electronic record kept of sales transactions at the time. Second, the car was not a 1972 as remembered by John, but actually a 1971½, which is why Robinson didn't believe the car was the right one at first.

la camaro de papa john d'apres moi c' est de la publicité ,car moi si je recherche un de mes ancien chars ,je vais vérifier le numéro de série ,alors qu'ici on n,a jamais parlé de numéro de série ,alors on peut raconté n,importe quoi ,dire n,importe quel prix et nommé n'importe qui ,pour mettre plus de saveur a l,histoire et la rendre crédible .

"If you’re out there stealing cars in the first place, you probably aren’t the sharpest tool shed, however, there are some cars that you just don’t want to go anywhere near at all, even if you have decided to live the life of crime. One example of those cars would just so happen to be the Chevrolet Camaro owned by Papa John himself.

When John Schnatter, the owner of the chain and the car alike decided to send his own personal Chevrolet Camaro out to the Dream Cruise in Detroit, someone decided to steal the car that has been used in all sorts of marketing materials for one of the biggest pizza chains in the country, truck, trailer, and all!

However, it would appear as if this thief would experience a little bit of criminal’s regret after he apparently discovered exactly where the car had come from and who the owner was. Therefore, he decided that it would be in his best interest to just ditch all of the stolen things at a school in Detroit.

The car would later be found and a local news crew was on location to report that this stellar example of a Camaro would be recovered without very much damage done to it aside from the steering column that has been tampered with to get the car started. Check out the video below that shows exactly where the car was left after someone got tied up in a job that was just way too high profile for them. Maybe this was enough of a scare to make someone reconsider their life of crime."
