1969 AMX - Barris Kustom

Mecum auction en version originale anglaise a écrit:Built by George Barris for the early 70's television show “Banacek”, the AMX 400 is a customized AMX 390 automatic with extensive styling modifications done in typically bold Barris fashion. Four and a half inches were chopped out of the roof to lower the car’s silhouette, an effect furthered by laying the windshield pillars back two inches and extending the rear flying buttresses and tail. The front end was likewise lengthened fifteen inches and a louvered grille installed; matching horizontal windsplits decorate the rear end, which also incorporates a taillight system using red, yellow and green-colored lights to indicate stopping, deceleration and acceleration.

The body sides feature radiused wheelwells with character lines similar to those of the 1969 Camaro added front and rear, and dramatic chromed large-diameter full length side pipes. Ram air scoops were molded into the hood bulge to match the lines of the extended front sheetmetal, and the Barris-sculpted body was then sprayed with White Murano Pearl on the top surfaces with Rustic Orange on the sides. The car’s period-fashionable rolling stock consists of chromed Cragar SS wheels shod with lettered Firestone Wide Ovals.

While the Brown bucket seat interior is relatively stock, it has also been given the Barris touch in the form of matching Naugahyde crash padding on the dash and a carpeted rear compartment, and the glovebox lid carries the autograph of the one and only King of the Kustomizers.
