1955 pontiac strato star
he 1955 Pontiac Strato-Star concept car was a 6-passenger coupe that debut at the 1955 GM Motorama in New York City. It was a functional Pontiac dream car and was powered with the new 1955 Pontiac V8 engine with modifications that were good for 235 horsepower. With ultra-slim door pillars and lots of glass, it stood only 53-inches high. Hinged 6-inch roof panels built into the roof opened and closed automatically when the doors opened.
Fresh air intakes were built into each front fender above the single headlights. Parking lamps were built into twin pods suspended below the outer section of the front bumpers. Pontiac stylists retained the old-fashioned Silver Streak moldings.
The rear of the Strato-Star was very futuristic looking. Pontiac designers adapted many styling cues like the rolled pan, nerf bar bumperettes, and frenched visored taillights, from California Customizers of the 1955 era. Tail fins were a natural back then. Fiberglass door trim panels were used inside the car.

Oldsmobile 1956 golden rocket
The 1956 Oldsmobile Golden Rocket Concept, a gold colored 2 passenger car, which was styled to resemble a rocket, made its debut at the 1956 General Motors Motorama and was used at many other auto shows.
The Rocket had a fiberglass body with nerf-like built in bumpers that give an overall rocket effect. It was powered with a 234 CID, 275 horsepower Rocket V8 engine and weighs 2,500 pounds.
The upholstery was done in blue and gold leather. The speedometer was mounted in the center of the two-spoked steering wheel along with buttons to tilt the wheel, making it one of the first vehicles with a tilt steering wheel.
As either door was opened, the roof panel automatically raised and the seat came up 3 inches and swiveled outward for easy entry or exit.
The Golden Rocket was revised several times and stayed on the show circuit for several years.
The 1956 Oldsmobile Golden Rocket featured a seating system in which a roof panel was raised and the seat was elevated and rotated toward the entering occupant when the door was opened. Buttons on the steering wheel allowed the column to tilt downward, providing the driver with easier access.
A wild-looking bronze-metallic two-seat coupe was the most projectile-like Olds show car, and one of the quickest: Its 234 V-8 was tuned to produce 275 hp, which must have been impressive considering its curb weight of about 2,500 pounds. Like most of its predecessors, the Rocket had a fiberglass body. Roof panels rose, resembling Mercedes’ gullwing-style, and the seats lifted and swiveled out to welcome the posterior when the doors were opened. Conventional bumpers were replaced by nerf-like built-in bumpers, and one of the first-known tilt steering wheels was in the cockpit.

1954 f88
Here's what the Corvette Oldsmobile Division wanted, but never had. This experimental sports car would have been in direct competition with the Chevrolet Corvette. While debating the matter, GM built three Olds F-88 showcars, each one slightly different, all with concealed folding tops. It is powered by a 324-cid 'Rocket V8' producing 250 bhp. Brought out of GM styling in pieces, and owned briefly by financier and luxury auto magnate, E.L. Cord (CEO of Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg). One version was gifted to Harley Earl upon his retirement in December of 1985. The only surviving F-88 was sold at auction in 2005 for $3.2 million.
The XP-20 project, commonly known as F-88 was a pet project of Harley Earl (working with him was Bill Mitchell, Ken Pickering, Zora Duntov etc.). Four cars came out of the project, but only styling order #2265 (this car) survived. It was sold or given to E.L. Cord (Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg owner) in 1955. Hundreds of internal GM documents and original blue prints are still with this sole survivor.
